one more step from perfection
My sister is perfect.
Some of you know what I'm talking about. She slaves all night on her homework, yet still summons the energy to be cheerful and pleasant to everyone all day. Plus she bakes the most insanely amazing desserts that you've never tasted (she will make one lucky man very happy someday). Seriously, I wonder how she keeps the guys off her.
My parents like to remind my brother and me that this perfection does not run in the family. It used to just be my hair (yeah right), but now my mother has a new shortcoming to remind me of.
Today I went to the dentist and found, to my great surprise, that I have recently acquired a brand new pair of cavities. Not deep ones, but cavities nonetheless. Now, I don't eat lots of sweets. I usually brush my teeth twice a day (read: unless I fall asleep while doing my homework, which happens painfully frequently). My dear mum was always proud of her children's perfect teeth. But now? No more.
So, in two weeks I get to meet my new friend: the drill. What excitement! Maybe they'll let me blast Crowder in my ears to ease the pain....
I'm so glad that God doesn't judge our perfection by what we do or by what we have. God's idea (and our only real example) of perfection is Christ. We really have it easy don't we? All we need is to ask Christ to be in us—to shine through us, and we can be called perfect. On our own? Never. With Christ? Absolutely!
And now, a tantalizing shot of my pearly off-whites:

It's hilarious to me that I was pondering your sister's perfection myself just this morning. I don't always see her very often, but I saw her twice today, and you put it perfectly--she was very happy and cheerful, but I know that she's always up late studying.
No worries on the cavities. I was a later-life cavity-acquirer myself. Same deal--my poor mom and her sorrow over my now imperfect teeth. I've had a couple of little cavities filled now. I was way nervous, but it's really not that big of a deal. They numb ya up good (and the shot doesn't hurt either). I even had one or two filled without numbing first and I was fine. You'll be okay. :)
i had the privilege of collecting change with your sister on a Sunday afternoon last month. it was a joy. you know, it reminded me of you and the fact that, even with cavities, i miss mi hermano. :P hope you don't mind i found your blog. i like it. and i like knowing you're doing well.
hope the drilling wasn't too bad.
